Common questions

How do I join? Afterword is invite-only while it is small. Leave your address at joinafterword.com and we will send you a code when there is room. If a friend is already here, tell them — a word from a reader moves you up the list.

I forgot my password. On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot your password? We will email you a code to choose a new one with.

I signed up but never got the email code. Check your spam folder, then the address you typed — the confirmation page shows it — and use Send a new code. If the address was wrong, Use a different email takes you back to fix it.

Can I change my username? No. Other readers find you by it, and sign-up says so when you choose it. Your name and the line about yourself can be changed any time from Edit profile.

Why does the app show a score I did not pick? You never pick a number. You say how you felt about a book and then answer a few "which did you like more?" questions. The score is where the book landed among everything else you have read. It is derived, not chosen, and it changes as your shelf grows.

Someone is bothering me. Open the … at the top of their profile or of their entry, or long-press their comment or club note, and choose Report or Block. Reports are read within a day. A blocked reader cannot see your reading, follow you or send you anything, and is not told. You tab → Blocked readers undoes a block. The rules are in the Terms.

How do I delete my account? You tab → Delete account. Everything goes, immediately, and cannot be recovered.

Search is not finding a book. Search looks through Afterword's own catalogue of a few hundred thousand books. If a book is not there yet, tap Scan the barcode on the empty search page, or type its ISBN, and it will be added.
